Research Database Complex (RDC)

Research Database Complex

The Research Database Complex (RDC) is dedicated to research-related databases and data-intensive applications that require a database. Oracle and MySQL databases are supported, and the default database size is 15MB. The RDC also provides an environment for database-driven web applications with a research focus. This system, rdcweb.uits.iu.edu, runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.

The RDC consists of two Hewlett Packard DL 180 G6 servers, each containing 2 2.4 GHz Intel E5620 processors, and 72GB of memory.  The webserver is a Dell 2950. 

The RDC currently supports several important research projects:

National Gene Vector Laboratories

Getting Started

Accounts on the RDC are available to IU graduate students, faculty and staff. Undergraduate students must have a faculty sponsor. You can apply for an account at https://itaccounts.iu.edu/.  Already have an account and need help getting started?  See the Knowledge Base article Getting Started on the IU Research Database Complex.  Learn more about database security, database backup and recovery, and disk space for data loading by reading the RDC Usage Policies.

Web Services

In addition to providing a home for research databases, the RDC provides an environment for database-driven web applications with a research focus. This environment is comprised of a Dell 2950 with a 1.6GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon processor and 8GB of memory. This system is known as rdcweb.uits.iu.edu and runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. User home directories reside on the IBM N5500 NAS storage device with disk quotas of 10GB per user.  For details, see Web Services on the IU Research Database Complex.

Scheduled Monthly Maintenance

The maintenance window for the RDC is the first Tuesday of each month, 8am-5pm. If downtime is necessary at other times, an announcement will be posted on the system Message of the Day (motd) and emailed to the RDC-L LISTSERV list.
