ARCHIVED: On Big Red, how do I change my login shell and password?
Login shells
The default login shell on Big Red is
/bin/bash. Alternatives shells are listed in
/etc/shells, the most popular being
/bin/tcsh. To request a login shell change, run
changeshell and select the shell you'd like.
Passwords
Big Red uses the Indiana University Bloomington Kerberos service for authentication. Your IU Network ID password is your Big Red password. To change your IU Network ID password, visit the IU Passphrase Maintenance utility at:
https://passphrase.iu.edu/
The passwd command on Big Red nodes will create
a temporary local password that will be overwritten the next time the
user information files are globally distributed from the cluster
management server node.
