ARCHIVED: On Libra, how do I change my login shell and password?
Note: UITS will retire Libra in spring 2009. Accounts are available on Quarry, a general-purpose Unix computing environment. For more, see ARCHIVED: About the Libra retirement.
Login shells
The first time you log into Libra, the
firstshell utility will prompt you to select your login
shell. The choices are Korn shell (ksh),
Bourne shell (sh), GNU Bourne-Again shell
(bash), C shell (csh), and extended C shell
(tcsh). Once you select your preferred login shell, it
will be automatically set on the node you're currently logged into. It
will take up to 60 minutes for the change to be propagated to all
nodes.
To change your login shell later, enter
changeshell.sh . (The chsh command on
Libra resets the login shell temporarily on the local node, but is
overwritten the next time the user information files are globally
distributed from the cluster management server node.)
Passwords
Libra uses the Indiana University Kerberos domain server for authentication, and your Libra password is the same as your IU Network ID password. To change your IU Network ID password, visit the IU Passphrase Maintenance utility at:
https://passphrase.iu.edu/
The passwd command on Libra will create a temporary local
password that password will be overwritten the next time the user
information files are globally distributed from the cluster management
server node.
